Create a workflow

Create a workflow in the Workflow Builder. Choose AI Setup to have AI Studio design the workflow from a description, or Manual Setup to pick the workflow type and agents yourself.

Before you start​

  • A workflow can include only Active agents. See Enable, disable or delete an agent.
  • Workflow Name can use letters, numbers, underscores and hyphens only, with no spaces or special characters.

Workflow types​

TypeHow the agents run
SequentialIn a defined order. Each agent gets the previous output.
ParallelAt the same time. Results are combined at the end.
SupervisorA supervisor routes tasks and combines the outputs.
LoopIn a cycle, refining the result until a stopping condition is met.

Create a workflow with AI Setup​

  1. On the Agentic Workflow screen, select Create Workflow. The Workflow Builder opens.
  2. Select AI Setup.
  3. In Workflow Name, enter a name of up to 80 characters, for example Customer_Support_Pipeline.
  4. In Industry / Area, select the closest match.
  5. In Workflow Description, describe what the workflow should accomplish, the process it should follow and its goals.
  6. Under Visibility, select Org so anyone in your account can use the workflow, or Private so only you can see and use it.
  7. Optional: add Tags and an Avatar.
  8. Select Generate Workflow Configuration.
  9. Review the result. It shows the AI Design Rationale, Workflow Overview, Flow Preview, the agents with their system prompts, and Execution Settings. Select Previous to make changes.
  10. Select Create Workflow to save and activate the workflow, or Save as Draft to finish later.

Create a workflow with Manual Setup​

Manual Setup has three steps: Basics & Type, Agents & Flow and Review & Create.

  1. On the Agentic Workflow screen, select Create Workflow.
  2. Select Manual Setup.
  3. Enter the Workflow Name and a Description of up to 180 characters.
  4. Under Workflow Type, select Sequential, Parallel, Supervisor or Loop.
  5. Optional: enter a Welcome Message and choose an Avatar.
  6. Under Execution Settings, set:
    • Error Handling: Stop on Error, Continue on Error or Retry on Error.
    • Max Iterations: how many times the workflow may repeat.
    • Timeout (seconds): how long the workflow may run.
  7. Select Next.
  8. Under Available Agents, select the agents to add. Type in Search agents... to find one. The Flow Preview shows the order.
  9. To adjust an agent for this workflow, select it in the flow. In Configure Agent, change Agent Name, Role, System Prompt or Model, then select Save Agent.
  10. Select Next.
  11. Check the Workflow Overview, agents and Execution Settings. Set Visibility and Tags.
  12. Select Create Workflow, or Save as Draft to finish later.

What happens next​

If you saved a draft, the message Workflow saved as draft successfully. appears. If you created the workflow, it starts activating. See Agentic Workflow.

Troubleshooting​

  • Next stays unavailable: enter both a name and a description.
  • name and description are required: enter both fields.
  • only active agents can be added to a workflow: remove the inactive agent, or enable it first.
  • No active agents found. enable at least one agent. See Enable, disable or delete an agent.
  • Failed to generate workflow configuration: check the name and description, then try again.
