Edit an agent

Change how an agent presents itself, what it does and which tools it can use.

Before you start​

  • To change a private agent, you must be its creator.
  • Only the agent's creator can change its visibility.

Open the editor​

  1. On the Agents screen, open the Actions menu on the agent's row.
  2. Select Edit Agent. The Edit Agent page opens.

Change the agent​

  1. Change Agent Name or Agent Description as needed.
  2. Change Visibility if needed. When visibility is Private, use Private Access to pick other users who can also see and use the agent.
  3. Add or remove Tags.
  4. In the persona card, change Persona name, Preset or Persona description. Select ↓ Copy from agent description to reuse the agent description.
  5. Under Tools & integrations, select + Add MCP to add tools. Without tools, the agent can only chat.
  6. In the mission card, change the System Prompt.
  7. Select + Add goal or + Add guardrail to add goals and guardrails.
  8. Change the Welcome Message, which users see when they open a chat with the agent.
  9. Attach or detach knowledge bases. Changes to knowledge bases take effect only when you select Update Agent.
  10. Select Update Agent.

What happens next​

The message Agent updated successfully. appears.

Other actions in the editor​

The top of the editor also has these buttons:

  • Test Chat: see Test an agent.
  • Share: shown to the agent's owner.
  • Publish or Mission Control: publishes the agent to Mission Control, shown to the agent's owner.

Edit from a saved version​

If you open the editor from a saved version, a banner says the editor is loaded from a locked snapshot. Saving updates the draft. The running agent does not change until you set a version active. Select Back to current draft to return to the current draft.

Troubleshooting​

  • ⚠ No guardrails defined. the agent has no limits on scope, recipients or write operations. Add at least one guardrail before you make it visible to your organisation.
  • ⚠ No goals set: goals are optional, but adding them gives the agent stated objectives.
  • Only the creator can change visibility. ask the agent's creator to change it.
  • No other active users are available in this account. there is nobody else to add under Private Access.
  • No knowledge bases yet. Create one from the Knowledge Base page, then attach it here. create a knowledge base first.
  • If saving fails because the system prompt is missing, enter a System Prompt and save again.
