Add sub-agents

Sub-agents, called helpers on screen, let one agent ask another agent for part of a job. For example, a helper can supply knowledge the agent doesn't have, or review its draft. The person asking sees one reply.

Before you start

  • A helper must be an Active agent. Agents that aren't active are shown but can't be selected.
  • You need to be able to edit the agent. See Edit an agent.

Steps

  1. Open the agent in the editor.
  2. Open the Sub-Agents tab.
  3. Turn on Delegation.
  4. Select + Add helper.
  5. In Agent, select Choose an agent… and pick the helper. Type in Search agents… to find it.
  6. In When it runs, select one of:
    • Before the agent answers
    • When needed
    • After the draft
    • Only when asked
  7. In What it is for, describe the helper's job, for example "Finds the relevant company policy." Be specific. This wording decides whether the helper gets picked.
  8. Repeat for each helper you want.
  9. Save the agent with Update Agent.

To remove a helper, select Remove helper on its row.

Advanced limits

Under advanced limits you can set:

  • Helper calls per message
  • How deep helpers may nest: at 1, a helper cannot call helpers of its own.
  • How long to wait for a helper (seconds)

Troubleshooting

  • This agent is not active, so the call will fail when the turn runs. Activate it first. enable the helper agent, or choose another.
  • No agent is selected, so this helper will never run. pick an agent for the helper, or remove the row.
  • This agent is no longer available to you. the helper agent may have been deleted or made private. Remove it and choose another.
  • If saving is refused because a helper can't be added, remove that helper and choose an active agent.
