Add dashboard widgets
A widget calls a tool on one of your MCP connectors and shows what it returns. You describe what you want to see in a prompt, and ScoutIT AI picks a chart or table to fit the data. You can also pick ready-made widgets from the catalog.
To add widgets, go to Agent Ops → Dashboard Builder and open the dashboard you want.
Before you start
- You need a dashboard that you can edit. See Build custom dashboards.
- You need at least one MCP connector.
Add a custom widget
- Select Add Custom Widget.
- In Title, enter a title. The title can be up to 80 characters.
- In MCP connector, choose the connector. You can type to search. Each connector shows how many tools it has.
- In Tool, choose the tool to call. You can search by name or description. Tools that need extra inputs are greyed out and show what they require.
- In Prompt, describe what you want to see, for example a line chart of incidents over time. The prompt can be up to 400 characters. To get a suggestion, select Generate with AI.
- Optional: under Scope and Access, choose who can see and edit the widget. The choices are the same as for dashboards.
- Select Generate Preview and check the result.
- Select Add.
The widget appears on the dashboard.
Choose how the data is shown
You don't pick a widget type. ScoutIT AI chooses from the data and your prompt:
- Charts: name the kind of chart in the prompt to ask for it, such as pie, donut, line, bar, horizontal bar, stacked bar, scatter, funnel, gauge or heatmap.
- Tables: ask for a table in the prompt, for example "as a table". A table is also used when the data can't be charted. Type in Search rows… to filter a table.
- Raw response: when the tool doesn't return rows, the widget shows what it returned, such as a page, an image, a PDF or text.
Add widgets from the catalog
The catalog holds ready-made widgets built from the tools on your MCP connectors.
- Select Explore Catalog.
- Optional: use All MCPs to show widgets from chosen connectors only.
- Select each widget you want to add. The count at the top shows how many you've selected.
- Select Add to Dashboard.
- In Dashboard name, type a new name to create a dashboard, or pick an existing dashboard from the list.
- Select Add Widget (or Add Widgets).
The dashboard you chose opens with the new widgets. A dashboard created this way is private to you.
Refresh, edit or delete a widget
Each widget has buttons in its top corner:
- Refresh: runs the tool again and redraws the widget with live data. Everyone who can see the dashboard can refresh.
- Edit: opens the widget so you can change its title, prompt and sharing. You can't change the connector or tool. Create a new widget instead. Select Generate Preview, then Save.
- Delete: removes the widget from the dashboard. In the Delete widget? window, select Delete. This can't be undone.
Edit and Delete appear only if you can edit both the dashboard and the widget.
