Configure collector

Use Configure Collector to download a collector for your environment and see which collectors are connected. A collector runs on one of your own hosts and connects to ScoutIT AI using your account's details.

To open the screen, go to ManageIT → Configure Collector.

Before you start

  • Have a Windows or Linux host where you can run the collector.
  • Decide on a display name that tells your team where the collector runs.

Download a new collector

  1. Under Download a new collector, check the Client ID. It's generated from your account and can't be changed.
  2. In Display Name, enter a name for this collector. This field is required.
  3. In Location, choose the region the collector runs in: US-East, US-West, EU-Central, Asia-Pacific or MH India.
  4. Optional: in Description, add notes about where the collector runs.
  5. Wait for the Account Registration Token to load. The collector sends this token when it starts. Treat it as a secret and don't share it.
  6. Select Download for Windows or Download for Linux. The button shows Preparing… while the package is built.
  7. Save the zip file when your browser asks.

Run the collector

  1. Copy the zip file to the host and extract it.
  2. Run the start script for your operating system from the extracted folder: run.bat on Windows or run.sh on Linux. The script is already set up with your account details, so you don't need to edit it.
  3. Keep the collector running. Return to Configure Collector to check that it has connected.

Check your active collectors

The Active collectors section shows every collector that has connected for your account.

The summary tiles show:

TileWhat it shows

UnhealthyHow many collectors aren't healthy.
Avg UptimeThe average time collectors have been running.
Oldest and NewestHow long ago the oldest and newest collectors were last seen.

Each collector row shows:

  • Status: Authenticated, Idle or Inactive.
  • Uptime: how long the collector has been running.
  • Messages and Bytes: the amount sent (↑) and received (↓).
