Manage apps
Use Manage Apps to keep the list of applications that ScoutIT AI monitors. You can add apps by hand or from the app catalog, set how each app is checked, and choose which monitoring points run the checks.
Before you start
- Open ManageIT → Manage Apps.
- To run checks against an app, you need at least one monitoring point. See Manage monitoring points.
Find an app
The toolbar at the top of the page controls what the list shows.
- Grid view shows each app as a card with its Status, Type and Created date.
- List view shows a table with the columns Name, URL, Status, Type, Source, Created and Actions.
- The sort list orders apps by Newest first, Name, Category or Status. The next list sets Descending or Ascending order.
- Search apps... filters the list as you type.
The Source column shows how the app was added: Manual, Catalog or AppNeta.
When the list is longer than one page, use Prev and Next at the bottom. If nothing matches, you see No applications in this view.
Add an app from the catalog
- Select App Catalog.
- In Application Catalog, type in Search catalog to narrow the list.
- Select the check box on each app you want to add.
- Select Add Selected.
ScoutIT AI adds the apps and shows Added from catalog: followed by their names. Edit each new app to add monitoring points so checks can start. If you select Add Selected with nothing chosen, you see No catalog apps selected.
Add an app yourself
- Select Add Application. The Create App page opens.
- Under Application Details, enter the App Name and App URL. Both are required.
- Choose a Workflow Type: Browser or HTTP. The rest of the form changes to match. See Set up a browser workflow or Set up an HTTP workflow.
- Set Active to Active or Inactive.
- Optionally, enter a Description.
- Under Tags, select any tags that apply to the app.
- Under Monitoring Points, select the monitoring points that should check the app.
- Under Analytics, optionally set Priority (1 to 100), Business Unit and Service. If you choose Other for Business Unit, enter it in Other Business Unit.
- Select Submit.
The Tags and Monitoring Points sections appear only when your account has tags or monitoring points to choose from.
Set up a browser workflow
A browser workflow signs in to the app the way a person would, by typing into and selecting page elements. The Web Elements section lists these steps. A new app starts with a Type step and a Click step.
For each step, fill in:
- HTML Control Input Type: Type to enter text, or Click to select the element.
- Find HTML Control By: ID, CSS, XPath, Name or Class.
- HTML Control Identifier: the value that finds the element, for example its ID.
- HTML Control Value: the text to type, for a Type step.
To manage steps:
- Select Add Action to add a step.
- Select the remove button on a row to delete that step.
- Select Test Auto Login to check the steps against the App URL.
The test shows each element with a tick if ScoutIT AI found it, or a cross and an error if it didn't. For help choosing identifiers, see Identifying web elements.
Set up an HTTP workflow
An HTTP workflow sends a request to the app and checks the response. Fill in the Request section:
- Choose the HTTP Version (HTTP/1.1 or HTTP/2) and Method.
- Enter the Endpoint. It's required and starts as
/. - Optionally, enter a User Agent, or pick one from Predefined.
- Optionally, add a request header with Key and Value. Select + Add Header for more headers.
- Optionally, set a Response Limit in KB.
- Set Expected Status to Any, or to Status Code and enter the Status Value.
- Select Follow Redirects or Ignore SSL Errors if needed.
If the app needs a sign-in, enter the Username and Password under Authentication.
Edit an app
- Select the app name, or select Edit on its card or row. The Edit App page opens.
- Change the fields you need.
- Select Submit, or Cancel to go back without saving.
Delete an app
- Select Delete on the app's card or row.
- In Delete application?, check the app name.
- Select Delete.
Deleting an app also removes its monitoring point assignments, headers and selectors. You can't undo it.
Keep apps in sync with AppNeta
When your account uses AppNeta, a status line above the list compares its apps with yours.
- AppNeta: In sync means both lists match.
- If apps need to be added or deactivated, the line says how many. Select Sync Now to update the list.
When the sync finishes, you see Sync complete: with the number of apps added, linked, updated and deactivated.
What happens next
After you select Submit, you return to Manage Apps and the app appears in the list. Apps with monitoring points selected are checked from those locations.
