Manage monitoring points

A monitoring point (MP) is a location that runs checks against your apps. Use Manage MPs to create monitoring points, see where they are and whether they're connected, and tag them.

Before you start

  • Open ManageIT → Manage MPs.
  • For a monitoring point that you download and deploy yourself, you need a machine to run it on.

Find a monitoring point

The header shows Monitoring Points and the total count. The toolbar controls what you see.

  • Tile view shows each monitoring point as a card with its Cloud Provider, OS and Status.
  • List view shows a table with the columns Name, Cloud Provider, OS, Network Interface, Location, Connection and Actions.
  • Map view plots monitoring points on a world map. Only monitoring points with a known location appear.
  • The sort list orders monitoring points by Name A → Z, Cloud Provider, OS or Status.
  • Search monitoring points… filters the list as you type.
  • Show Remote Agent limits the list to connected monitoring points running on Windows or macOS.

When there's more than one page, use ‹ Prev and Next ›. In List view you can also set Per page to 10, 25 or 50.

Create a monitoring point

  1. Select Create MP. The Create Monitoring Point page opens.
  2. Choose a Type:
    • Auto Create Cloud MP creates and starts the monitoring point for you.
    • Docker Compose, VM Image or Hardware Appliance gives you a setup file to deploy yourself.
  3. For Auto Create Cloud MP, choose the Cloud Provider and Region.
  4. Enter a Name. It's required and can't contain spaces. Use hyphens or underscores instead.
  5. Choose a Time Zone.
  6. Optionally, select Tags. Type in Select tags to filter the list.
  7. Select Create (for a cloud MP) or Download (for the other types).

Tags appears only when your account has tags. To create tags, see Manage tags.

What happens next

If you chose Auto Create Cloud MP, a Creating screen appears while ScoutIT AI provisions the monitoring point. This may take a few minutes.

  • On success, you see Created Successfully. Select Back to List.
  • On failure, you see Creation Failed with the reason. Select Back to List and try again.
  • You also get an email when creation succeeds or fails.
  • If you select Cancel on the Creating screen, you return to the list. A Creating banner stays at the top of the list until provisioning finishes.

For the other types, you see a confirmation that the monitoring point was created.

  1. Select Download Setup File.
  2. Deploy the file on your machine.
  3. Select Back to List.

In both cases, the monitoring point appears in the list once its agent connects.

View a monitoring point and edit its tags

  1. Select the monitoring point's name, or select View on its card or View / Edit Tags in its row.
  2. Review its Hostname, Name, Cloud Provider, OS, Connection, IP Address, Location and Region.
  3. To change tags, select or clear them under Tags.
  4. Select Save Tags, or Cancel to go back.

You see Tags updated successfully. when the change is saved.

Delete a monitoring point
