Manage tags
Tags help you organise your applications, locations (monitoring points) and services. Use the Manage Tags screen to create tags, arrange them into parent and child tags, and choose what each tag applies to.
To open the screen, go to ManageIT → Manage Tags.
Before you start
- A tag can only be applied to items that already exist. Create applications, monitoring points and services first if you need them. See Manage apps, Manage monitoring points and Manage services.
- To create a child tag, its parent tag must already exist.
Top-level and child tags
A tag is either Top-level or Child. A child tag sits under a parent tag, so you can build a hierarchy such as a region tag with city tags beneath it. A tag can't be its own parent, and a parent choice that would loop back on itself isn't allowed.
Find a tag
The Tags panel shows how many tags you have in total. Use the toolbar to narrow the list:
- Tile view and List view switch between cards and a table.
- The sort menu orders tags by Newest first, Oldest first, Name A → Z, Name Z → A or Top-level first.
- Search tags… matches text in the tag name and description. The list updates as you type.
In tile view, each card shows the tag's Type, Applied On and Created date. Select a card to open the tag.
In list view, the table shows Name, Description, Type, Applied On and Created. Applied On lists the kinds of item the tag is linked to: Application, MP or Service. Use Rows per page (10, 25, 50 or 100) and Previous and Next to move through the pages.
Add a tag
- Select Add Tag.
- Enter a Tag Name. It can be up to 120 characters.
- To make this a child tag, select Child tag, then choose its Parent tag.
- Optionally, enter a Description of up to 500 characters.
- In Applications, Locations and Services, select each item the tag should apply to. Each picker has its own Search… box, and its badge shows how many items you've selected.
- Select Create Tag.
Edit a tag
- Select the tag name, the tag card, or the Edit tag icon.
- On the Edit Tag page, change the fields you need. Select a tile again to remove the tag from that item.
- Select Save Changes.
If you clear Child tag, the tag becomes top-level and its parent is removed. To leave the form without saving, select Cancel.
Delete a tag
- Select the Delete tag icon on the tag's row or card.
- In Delete tag?, check the tag name.
- Select Delete tag.
Deleting a tag can't be undone. Linked monitoring points, applications and services keep their reference to the tag until the next sync. You can't delete a tag that still has child tags. Reassign or delete the child tags first.
What happens next
After you create or save a tag, ScoutIT AI returns you to the Manage Tags list, where the tag appears. After you delete a tag, you see Tag deleted.
