Use the Chats tab
The Chats tab is where you start a chat with a model or an agent, and where you find every conversation you've had in Mission Control. This page shows you how to use it.
Before you start
The Chats tab isn't on every account. Some accounts see Groups instead. See Browse agents by group.
Find your way around
The Chats tab has two parts:
- The left panel. New chat, a Search chats… box, and your conversations. Pinned conversations are listed under Pinned and the rest under Recent.
- The chat list. Headed Chats, with the number of conversations. It has its own search box, sort and filter controls, and New Chat.
Each conversation shows its title, a symbol for whether it belongs to a project, an agent or a model, and details such as the project name, the agent name, the number of messages and the date. A conversation with an agent published to Mission Control carries an MC badge. A conversation started from a task shows the task's name. Select it to open the task.
Start a chat
- Select New chat.
- Choose Model to chat with an AI model, or Agent to chat with one of your agents.
- For Model, choose a model in Select a model. For Agent, choose an agent in Select an agent. You can type in Search agents… to find one.
- Optional: to keep the chat in a project, choose it in Select a project.
- Type your message. The box reads Ask anything... for a model and Chat with your agent... for an agent.
- Press Enter, or select Send message.
After the first message, the mode is fixed for that conversation. To change it, start a new chat.
To stop a reply that is still being written, select Stop generating.
Model chat modes
In Model mode you can change how the model answers. Open the mode menu (Select model chat mode) and choose one:
| Mode | What it does |
|---|---|
| Default | Classic single-model chat |
| Power Mode | Enhance your prompt before sending |
| Smart Routing | Auto-pick the best model for the question |
| Beast Mode: Compare | Ask 2-3 models side-by-side |
| Beast Mode: Synthesize | Combine multiple models into one answer |
| Thinking | Reason step-by-step before answering |
For the two Beast Mode options, select Select models and tick two or three models.
Other composer tools
- Attach file adds files to your message.
- Voice input lets you speak your message.
- The MCP menu turns connectors on and off for the chat. Select Manage connectors to go to the connector list.
- Training Mode appears in Agent mode. When it's on, the conversation is saved as shared organization knowledge with personal details removed.
Once a conversation has started, you can also select Email conversation, Open conversation as PDF, Automate chat or Create project next to the composer.
Open a conversation
Select a conversation in the left panel. If the conversation is with an agent published to Mission Control, it opens on that agent's chat screen. See Chat with an agent.
Search, sort and filter
- Type in Search chats… or Search… to narrow the list by title.
- Use the sort menu to show Newest, Oldest, Name A–Z or Name Z–A first.
- Open the filter menu (Filter chats) and tick Pinned only, or tick projects under Filter by project.
Pin, rename, move or delete a conversation
- Point at the conversation and select Chat actions (the three dots).
- Choose an action:
- Pin Conversation keeps it under Pinned. Unpin Conversation moves it back to Recent.
- Move to project opens Move chat to project. Select a project, then select Move chat. For a chat that is already in a project, the action is Remove from project.
- Rename chat opens a dialog. Type the new name in Chat name (up to 120 characters), then select Rename.
- Delete Chat asks Delete chat? Select Delete to confirm, or No to keep it.
Delete several conversations
- Tick the box next to each conversation you want to delete. A Delete button appears with the number selected.
- Select Delete.
- In Delete selected chats?, select Delete to confirm, or Cancel to keep them.
Deleted conversations can't be restored.
Troubleshooting
- No chats yet. You haven't started a conversation yet. Select New chat to start one.
- Selection required. In Agent mode, choose an agent before you send your first message, then select OK.
- A model shows as no longer available. The model was withdrawn from your account. Your conversation is safe. Pick another model to carry on.
