Manage projects

A project groups related conversations and gives them shared instructions, knowledge files and tasks. This page shows you how to create and manage projects from the Projects tab.

Before you start

The Projects tab isn't on every account. Some accounts see Groups instead.

Who can change a project depends on how it was shared:

  • The person who created a project can always edit and delete it.
  • A project with Scope set to User is visible only to its creator.
  • A project with Scope set to Account is visible to everyone in your account. With Read-only, others can chat in it, but only the creator can edit or delete it. With Full access, anyone in your account can also edit it, manage its files and delete it.
  • Someone assigned a task in a project can open that project and work in it.

Find a project

  1. Select the Projects tab. The heading shows Projects and how many you have.
  2. Type in Search projects… to narrow the list by name.
  3. Use the sort menu to show Newest, Oldest, Name A–Z or Name Z–A first.
  4. To filter by tag, use the tag filter next to the view buttons.
  5. Select Tile view or List view to change the layout.

Each project shows its name and description, its dates, its tags, its status (unless it is Not Started), and how many chats and files it holds. An inactive project is marked Inactive.

Select a project to open it. See Work in a project.

Create a project

  1. Select New Project. The New Project dialog opens.
  2. In Name, type a name. The name is required and can be up to 100 characters.
  3. Optional: in Description, say what the project is about (up to 2,000 characters).
  4. Set Start and Finish dates, and choose a Project Status: Not Started, In Progress or Finished.
  5. Leave Active ticked for a project you're working on now.
  6. Optional: add tags.
  7. Optional: in Custom instructions, describe how the AI should behave in this project, such as tone, role or format.
  8. Under Scope, choose User (only you) or Account (everyone in your account). For Account, choose Read-only or Full access under Account access for others.
  9. Optional: in Assign an agent, choose an agent. Project chats then use that agent's knowledge and tools. Leave it on No agent (project knowledge only) to chat with the project's own knowledge.
  10. Optional: under Knowledge files, select Choose files and add PDF, TXT, MD or CSV files.
  11. Select Create project.

The new project appears in the list. You can also start this dialog from Create project next to the chat composer.

Edit a project

  1. Open the project's actions menu (Actions for followed by the project name).
  2. Select Edit project. The Edit Project dialog opens.
  3. Change the details you need.
  4. Select Save changes.

Create an agent from a project

  1. Open the project's actions menu.
  2. Select Create agent.
  3. Read the dialog. It creates a private, automated agent seeded from the project's details, instructions and knowledge base. The project is left unchanged.
  4. Select Create agent.

Delete a project

  1. Open the project's actions menu.
  2. Select Delete project. The row asks Delete project?
  3. Select Delete to confirm, or No to keep it.

Deleting a project can't be undone.
