Google Chat webhook
You can send the alerts from an alert policy to a Google Chat space. To do this, create an incoming webhook in Google Chat, then paste its URL into the policy.
Before you start
- You need permission to add webhooks to the Google Chat space. If you don't have it, ask your Google Workspace administrator.
- You need access to ManageIT → Manage Alert Policies.
Create the webhook in Google Chat
- In Google Chat, open the space that should receive alerts.
- Add an incoming webhook to the space. Google's own help explains how to do this.
- Copy the webhook URL that Google Chat gives you. It starts with
https://.
Keep the webhook URL private. Anyone who has it can post to your space.
Add the webhook to an alert policy
- Open ManageIT → Manage Alert Policies.
- Select the policy name to edit it, or select Create Alert Policy.
- Under Communication, paste the URL into Google Chat Webhook.
- Select Send Test next to the field.
- Check the message under the field and in your Google Chat space.
- Select Save Changes, or Create Policy for a new policy.
What happens next
When the test works, you see Google Chat webhook accepted the test message. and the space receives the message Your webhook is verified. After you save, the policy's alerts are posted to that space. Google Chat appears in the policy's Channels.

| Webhook URL must be a valid https:// address. | Paste the full URL, starting with https://. |
| Could not reach the webhook endpoint. | Check the URL is complete and try again. |
| Webhook returned followed by an error code | Google Chat refused the message. Check the webhook still exists in the space, or create a new one. |
